England Managing Director Rob Key Provides Update on Jofra Archer’s Cricket Future
England managing director Rob Key has provided an update on the status of star fast bowler Jofra Archer, revealing that the Sussex quick will not be featuring in Test cricket this summer as he continues his recovery from stress fractures in his elbow. However, Key remains optimistic that Archer will be ready to represent England in the upcoming T20 World Cup in June.
Archer, who last played a Test match for England more than three years ago in February 2021, has been focusing on white-ball cricket in recent times, with his last appearance coming in a T20 against Bangladesh last year. Key confirmed in an interview with Sky Sports that Archer will be concentrating on white-ball cricket this summer and throughout the winter, with the hope of reintegrating him into the Test side next summer for the series against India and the Ashes.
Despite his absence from the Test arena, the goal is for Archer to be fit and firing for the T20 World Cup later this year, as well as potentially featuring in the T20 series against Pakistan in May. Key expressed his optimism about Archer’s progress, highlighting his recent performances in pre-season with Sussex in India and his upcoming stint in club cricket in the Caribbean.
“We’re taking it slow with Jofra to ensure his long-term fitness and availability for England across all formats,” Key stated. “It’s a gradual process, but we’re hopeful that he will be back in action soon and make a significant impact for the team.”
With Archer’s return on the horizon, England fans will be eagerly anticipating his comeback and the potential boost he could provide to the team’s bowling attack in the upcoming T20 competitions.
