Thierry Mouyouma emphasizes discipline as key to representing Gabon in football
Thierry Mouyouma, the new coach of the Gabon national football team, is determined to instill discipline in his players in order to achieve success on the field. In a recent interview with Radio France Internationale, Mouyouma emphasized the importance of discipline at every level of the game, from tactics to behavior.
Since taking over as coach in October 2023, Mouyouma has already made an impact, leading the Panthères to two wins in their first two World Cup qualifiers. Despite a recent friendly loss to Senegal and a draw with Congo, Mouyouma remains optimistic about the team’s future.
“Our primary ambition is to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations,” Mouyouma stated. “After that, we aim to qualify for the World Cup. Gabon has a chance like any other nation.”
Mouyouma recognizes the challenges ahead, particularly in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against reigning African champions, Côte d’Ivoire. However, he remains confident in his team’s abilities and is focused on restructuring the team to achieve their goals.
“We need to restructure the entity at every level: state of mind, disciplinary level, mental level, technical level, and results level,” Mouyouma explained. “It’s important for Gabon to qualify for every AFCON from now on.”
With Mouyouma’s emphasis on discipline and determination, the Gabon national team is poised to make a strong comeback and compete at the highest level of African football. Fans can expect an exciting journey ahead as Mouyouma leads the Panthères towards success on the international stage.
