UCLA Gymnastics Prepares for NCAA California Regional Second Round After Two-Week Break
The UCLA gymnastics team is gearing up for the NCAA California Regional Second Round on Friday, and they are more than ready to showcase their competitive spirit and talent on the floor.
After a two-week break that included spring break, the Bruins have been keeping their competitive edge sharp by challenging each other in various team activities. Freshman Katelyn Rosen mentioned how intense their warm-up volleyball matches can get, but it only fuels their desire to attack their gymnastics routines with the same intensity.
UCLA, seeded 11th with a record of 13-11, will face off against Denver, Arizona State, and Washington in the first session of the regional meet at Cal’s Haas Pavilion. The top two finishers from each session will advance to the regional finals on Sunday.
The Bruins are feeling confident and settled into their lineups after dealing with injuries throughout the season. Selena Harris, who recently earned Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year recognition, has been a standout performer with four perfect 10s this season. Senior Chae Campbell and Nya Reed have also been named to the All-Pac-12 first team for their performances on vault and floor, respectively.
Despite the unusual schedule of starting on floor exercise, the Bruins are embracing the challenge and are determined to maintain their momentum throughout the meet. Coach Janelle McDonald emphasized the importance of holding each other accountable and focusing on the details in practice.
As they head into the NCAA postseason, the Bruins are focused on doing what they love and supporting each other as they aim for their 25th NCAA regional title. With the guidance of their experienced upperclassmen, UCLA is ready to compete at their best and show why they are a force to be reckoned with in collegiate gymnastics.
