Saratoga Springs Rower Kristi Wagner Selected for U.S. Rowing Team for Summer Games
Saratoga Springs rower Kristi Wagner has been selected as one of the first 21 members of the U.S. Rowing team heading to the Summer Games in Paris this July. This will be Wagner’s second Olympics, as she previously competed in the 2020 Games in Tokyo, finishing fifth in doubles sculls with a different partner.
Wagner, a five-time national team member, will be teaming up with Sofia Vitas for the doubles sculls event in Paris. The duo recently won the bronze medal at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Serbia, and they are looking to improve upon their performance at the upcoming Olympics.
Having moved to Saratoga Springs in 2017, Wagner has become a key figure in the rowing community as the regatta director for the Saratoga Rowing Association. In addition to her athletic pursuits, Wagner also hosts a podcast called “The Other 3 Years,” where she shares her journey to qualify for the Olympics once again.
Reflecting on her Tokyo Olympic experience, Wagner acknowledged the challenges posed by the pandemic restrictions but remained focused on her goal of becoming the best rower she can be. With the support of U.S. Rowing and a rigorous training regimen, Wagner and Vitas are preparing to compete at the highest level in Paris.
As they wrap up their training camp in Florida and head to Princeton before the World Rowing Cup II races in Switzerland, Wagner and Vitas are determined to fine-tune their skills and make their mark on the international stage. With their sights set on Olympic glory, this dynamic duo is ready to showcase their talent and determination in Paris.
