Caroline Wozniacki knocked out of Charleston Open by Anhelina Kalinina; Victoria Azarenka advances

Caroline Wozniacki suffered a disappointing defeat in the second round of the Charleston Open as she was knocked out by Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets. The former World No 1 was unable to find her rhythm against the Ukrainian player, ultimately falling 6-2 6-3 in a one-sided match that lasted just over an hour.

This loss marks Wozniacki’s second consecutive early exit from a tournament, following her defeat to Kalinina in the Miami Open last month. Despite making a promising run to the quarter-finals at Indian Wells, the Danish player has struggled to find consistent form in 2024.

On the other hand, Victoria Azarenka had a much more successful outing at the Charleston Open, advancing to the next round with a dominant 6-1 6-2 victory over Elisabetta Cocciaretto. The Belarussian player will now face Taylor Townsend in the next round, after the American defeated sixth-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova.

In other matches, fourth-seeded Daria Kasatkina overcame Ashlyn Krueger in three sets, while Emma Navarro secured a comfortable win over Katie Volynets in an all-US matchup.
