New baseball coaches achieve success at SMCC, Airport, and Monroe

High School Baseball Roundup: SMCC Opens Season with No-Hitter, Airport and Monroe Secure Wins

St. Mary Catholic Central’s baseball team kicked off their season in impressive fashion with a doubleheader sweep over Summerfield on Wednesday. In the first game, Cameron Cole threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts, leading his team to a 2-0 victory. Drew Bylow’s sacrifice fly in the fifth inning broke the scoreless tie and secured the win for SMCC.

The second game saw SMCC come from behind to win 5-2, with Cole driving in two runs and Brady Runyon earning the win in relief. Coach Jared Janssen commended his team for their collective effort, praising both their offensive and defensive contributions.

In other baseball action, Airport’s Sean Langton shone in his senior season debut, pitching four strong innings and going 2-for-3 with four RBIs in an 11-1 victory over Taylor. Airport’s coach Jeff Goins was pleased with Langton’s performance and the team’s overall effort.

Monroe also started their season on a high note, defeating Woodhaven 6-3 in Chris Clark’s debut as head coach. Logan Loveland’s three-run double in the third inning was a key moment in the game, with Carson Liedel earning the win on the mound.

In softball, Whiteford battled through tough conditions to secure an 8-4 win over Sylvania Northview, while Milan showed power at the plate with a 20-hit performance in a doubleheader sweep over Tecumseh.

Overall, it was an exciting day of high school sports action with standout performances from players and coaches alike.
