Sebastian Vettel Considering Return to Formula One with Mercedes: Talks with Toto Wolff and Stakeholders
Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel has set the motorsport world abuzz with his recent revelation that he is considering a return to competitive racing. The 36-year-old retired from Formula One at the end of the 2022 season but has now expressed his openness to securing a seat for the 2025 season.
In discussions with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff and other stakeholders, Vettel has hinted at the possibility of making a comeback. “Potentially I am because I haven’t got a drive, but the question is, am I looking for one? I think it depends on the package,” Vettel said.
Having won his four titles with Red Bull, Vettel retired after a final season with Aston Martin. With Mercedes having a vacancy for 2025 following Lewis Hamilton’s departure to Ferrari, Vettel could potentially fill the void left by the seven-time world champion.
Reflecting on his decision to retire, Vettel stated, “I retired from Formula One not to come back, but I also did say that you never know. So I think it still stands.” The German manufacturer last had a German driver in Nico Rosberg, who retired after winning the 2016 world championship.
Vettel’s recent testing of a Porsche Penske Le Mans hypercar has fueled speculation about his potential return to racing. When asked about the possibility of joining Mercedes, Vettel revealed, “I’ve had conversations with him (Wolff), not really about the seat. We did speak about the whole situation in short as well.”
As Vettel continues to explore his options in the sport, fans eagerly await further developments on whether the former champion will make a sensational return to Formula One in the coming years.
