College Basketball Crown Tournament Set to Launch in 2025

Fox Sports and AEG are set to shake up the college basketball postseason landscape with the launch of the College Basketball Crown tournament in 2025. This new tournament will feature 16 teams that did not make it to the NCAA Tournament, providing them with a chance to compete on a big stage.

The inaugural tournament will be held in Las Vegas, with the MGM Grand Garden Arena and T-Mobile Arena serving as the host sites. Automatic bids will be given to two teams each from the Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East conferences, with the remaining spots filled by at-large bids selected by a committee.

Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman expressed excitement about the new tournament, highlighting the high-quality postseason opportunity it will provide for coaches, players, and schools. Games will be broadcast on Fox and FS1, giving fans the chance to watch the action unfold.

The College Basketball Crown will provide a new option for teams that may have declined participation in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), which is run by the NCAA. The NIT has undergone changes in recent years to include more teams from power-six conferences, but the College Basketball Crown offers a fresh alternative for teams looking to extend their season.

With a focus on evolving and elevating the sport of college basketball, Fox Sports, AEG, and the participating conferences are excited to provide more opportunities for student-athletes to showcase their skills in a competitive postseason environment. The chase for the College Basketball Crown promises to be an exciting addition to the college basketball calendar.
