“From the Streets of Calabar to US Scholarships: The Inspiring Journey of David Etim with Faithfulness Okom”

Fifteen-year-old basketballer, David Etim, has recently made headlines after receiving three scholarship offers from universities in the United States. This remarkable achievement was made possible through the intervention of Nigerian lawyer, Faithfulness Okom, who saw potential in the young athlete and decided to help him pursue his passion for basketball.

Faithfulness Okom, a lawyer based in Spain, shared his journey of how he met David Etim and the impact he has had on the teenager’s life. Okom, who hails from Calabar, Cross River State, comes from a family deeply rooted in education and philanthropy. His upbringing was defined by kindness, love, and a strong emphasis on education, instilled by his father, a former Dean of the Faculty of Law.

Despite not having a background in basketball scouting, Okom was drawn to David Etim’s potential when he first saw him in Calabar. He recognized the young boy’s physical attributes and decided to invest in his future by enrolling him in a basketball school and providing financial support for his training.

Through the efforts of Mr. Frank John, David’s coach, and Prince John Owhe of the OCAS foundation, David was able to showcase his talent at the NBA Africa tryouts in Senegal, where he impressed scouts and coaches, leading to three scholarship offers from US colleges.

Okom’s dedication to helping David reach his full potential is driven by his belief in the power of sports to change lives. He is now working on establishing a platform, Inspire Naija, to connect young football and basketball talents with opportunities in foreign markets, leveraging his expertise in sports law and his network within Europe.

As David Etim prepares to embark on his journey to the US to pursue his basketball career, Okom remains committed to supporting him and other young talents in realizing their dreams. His story is a testament to the transformative impact of mentorship and guidance in shaping the future of aspiring athletes.
