Ronnie O’Sullivan Faces Backlash from Snooker Fans for Telling Referee to ‘Chill’ during World Snooker Championship Match
Snooker fans have been left divided after Ronnie O’Sullivan received backlash for his interaction with referee Desislava Bozhilova during his World Snooker Championship quarter-final match against Stuart Bingham.
The incident occurred during the 21st frame of the match when play was briefly paused due to fans entering the arena at the Crucible. Bozhilova attempted to stop the influx of supporters and urged O’Sullivan and Bingham to resume play, stating that they might have to wait for up to 20 minutes.
O’Sullivan, however, was not in a hurry and told the referee to “chill.” This exchange has sparked a debate among fans, with some criticizing O’Sullivan for his tone and attitude towards the official.
Despite the criticism, some fans defended O’Sullivan, pointing out that the referee was trying to rush him into taking a shot while there was still commotion in the crowd. O’Sullivan himself chose not to comment on the incident, stating that he prefers to keep silent on such matters.
The snooker legend had earlier shown great sportsmanship during the match by choosing not to pot a red following a respotted black. However, he later claimed that some of the officials were against him, leading him to make a point by potting the ball.
O’Sullivan’s actions and comments have certainly added an extra layer of drama to the World Snooker Championship, leaving fans eagerly anticipating how the rest of the tournament will unfold.
