Kyren Wilson Advances to Second World Snooker Championship Final with Victory Over David Gilbert
Kyren Wilson has secured his spot in the World Snooker Championship final for the second time after defeating David Gilbert with a score of 17-11 at The Crucible. Wilson, who previously lost in the 2020 final to Ronnie O’Sullivan, will now face either Jak Jones or Stuart Bingham for the title on Sunday and Monday.
The twelfth seed, Wilson, took a commanding lead of 14-10 overnight against Gilbert and sealed the victory just four frames later. Despite Gilbert’s efforts to narrow the gap with a century in the final frame on Friday evening and a break of 70 on Saturday afternoon, Wilson maintained his composure and secured the win with three consecutive frames, including hitting half-centuries in the last two.
For Gilbert, this defeat marks another semi-final disappointment, as he was previously edged out by John Higgins in the same stage in 2019. Wilson, on the other hand, is now just one victory away from claiming his sixth ranking title and the biggest one of his career.
In the other semi-final, Jak Jones currently leads 2015 champion Stuart Bingham with a score of 13-10, setting up an exciting final session on Saturday evening.
Wilson expressed his relief at handling the pressure of being the favorite in the tournament, while Gilbert remained optimistic about his future prospects in the sport despite the loss. The World Snooker Championship final promises to be a thrilling showdown between two talented players vying for snooker glory.
