Celebrating Hockey’s Impact on Peace and Development in Oceania: The Hin4H Initiative
In the lead-up to the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April 6, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) is shining a spotlight on the transformative power of hockey in promoting peace and development. Across Oceania, the Hin4H initiative is making waves, changing lives, and shaping futures through the power of sports.
Partnering with the Australian Government-funded program Team Up, the Oceania Hockey Federation is spearheading the Hin4H initiative in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. This initiative goes beyond just playing hockey; it focuses on fostering holistic well-being, empowerment, and community development.
One of the standout successes of the program is the “Mamas in Hockey” initiative, empowering women in outreach communities to prioritize their health and embrace sports. Through integrated hockey and health sessions, women are not only improving their hockey skills but also breaking barriers to healthcare access.
Another remarkable aspect is the “Let’s Whistle In” program, aimed at recruiting and training more girls and women as umpires and officials. This initiative not only increases female representation in officiating but also provides leadership opportunities for women in sports.
The program also prioritizes inclusivity by engaging individuals with disabilities, providing access to sports and opportunities for social inclusion. Capacity building workshops and youth engagement programs further enhance the impact of Hin4H in communities across Oceania.
As the program continues to grow, it celebrates diversity, raises awareness about important issues, and fosters unity among participants. Through the transformative power of sports, the Hin4H program is creating a brighter, healthier future for generations to come in Oceania. #IDSDP2024.
