Helen Glover’s Rowing Comeback: Motherhood Superpowers and Olympic Ambitions
Mum-of-three Helen Glover is on a mission to make history this summer as she aims for a third Olympic medal in rowing. The two-time Olympic champion announced her return to the sport last year in preparation for Paris 2024 and has been on a supercharged journey ever since.
At 37 years old, Glover is not only juggling the demands of training and competition but also the responsibilities of being a mother of three. She credits motherhood for giving her the ‘superpowers’ needed to excel in her sport once again.
Glover, alongside her pairs partner Heather Stanning, made history at the London 2012 Olympics as the first British female rowers to win a gold medal. They went on to defend their title in Rio four years later before retiring. However, Glover made a comeback after having twins in 2020 and competed in Tokyo alongside Polly Swan, narrowly missing out on a medal.
Now, Glover is setting her sights on the women’s four event in Paris, hoping to add another Olympic medal to her collection. She acknowledges the challenges of balancing motherhood with elite sport but is determined to push herself out of her comfort zone and strive for success.
As an Aldi ambassador and with the support of the Nearest and Dearest programme in partnership with Team GB, Glover is ready to showcase her strength and determination on the Olympic stage once again. With a renewed sense of purpose and a deep love for her sport, Glover is proving that age is just a number and that anything is possible with the right mindset and support system.
