CAVC Basketball Team Makes History with AoC National Championship Win
The Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) basketball team has once again proven their dominance in the sport, clinching the prestigious AoC National Championship title for the first time in the competition’s 44-year history. Fresh off their third consecutive AoC Welsh league championship and Tier III Championship wins, the team showcased their skills against top teams from across the UK.
Despite a shaky start with a loss to Dudley College of Technology and a narrow victory over Leeds City College, CAVC found their rhythm in the later rounds, securing impressive wins over Richard Huish College, Gateshead College, and Long Road Sixth College. The final match against the College of Haringey, Enfield, and North East London proved to be a tough challenge, but CAVC’s defensive strategy and teamwork led them to a triumphant 9-13 victory.
Head of Basketball, Ieuan Jones, expressed his delight at the team’s historic win, praising the players for their dedication to both the sport and their academics. The victory comes at a time when basketball is rapidly growing in popularity in Wales, becoming the second most popular sport after football.
The CAVC basketball academy, known for its top-notch coaching and facilities, provides students with the opportunity to pursue their sports careers while also focusing on their academic development. With a talented group of players and a strong team culture, the future looks bright for CAVC as they continue to establish themselves as the elite basketball academy in Wales.
