Mike Randolph Out as St. Thomas Academy Boys Hockey Coach, Mark Strobel Hired as Replacement

Legendary boys hockey coach Mike Randolph finds himself in unfamiliar territory as he navigates the unexpected end of his tenure at St. Thomas Academy. After the school decided not to renew his contract for the upcoming season, Randolph, a state champion and coaching Hall of Famer, is now on the lookout for a new coaching opportunity.

Despite the disappointment of his departure, Randolph remains optimistic about his future in coaching. “I’ll be coaching somewhere next year,” he confidently stated, expressing his willingness to take on a head coaching role at any level of competition.

As St. Thomas Academy swiftly moved to fill the coaching vacancy with the hiring of former Wisconsin player Mark Strobel, Randolph reflected on his time with the Cadets. With a storied coaching career that includes a record-tying number of victories in Minnesota high school hockey, Randolph emphasized his passion for teaching the game and shaping young men on and off the ice.

While acknowledging the support he received from St. Thomas Academy’s activities director, Reed Hornung, Randolph also voiced his belief that the decision to part ways was ultimately out of Hornung’s hands. Despite the circumstances surrounding his exit, Randolph remains grateful for the relationships he built during his time at the school.

Looking ahead, Randolph is eager to find his next coaching opportunity and continue his legacy of success in the world of high school hockey. As he prepares to pass the torch to Strobel, a seasoned coach with an impressive background, Randolph leaves behind a lasting impact on the players and programs he has touched throughout his illustrious career.
