The World Snooker Championship: Prize Money Breakdown and Bonuses

The World Snooker Championship is reaching its climax at The Crucible in Sheffield, with Ronnie O’Sullivan eyeing a record eighth title at the prestigious event. Despite previous disputes with snooker’s authorities over pay and prize money, O’Sullivan is determined to etch his name in the history books.

The winner of the final on May 6 will walk away with a hefty prize of £500,000, while the runner-up will receive £200,000. The total prize fund for the championship stands at just under £2.4 million, covering the competition proper and qualifying tournament.

In addition to the prize money, players have the opportunity to earn bonuses for achieving the highest break at The Crucible. Mark Williams, Ricky Walden, and Jackson Page were tied on 142 for the highest break heading into the quarterfinals, with Page managing a century against O’Sullivan.

A bonus of £15,000 is awarded to the player with the highest break, while a maximum break of 147 would increase the bonus to £40,000. Thailand’s Noppon Saengkham already secured a £10,000 prize for a 147 during qualifying.

Furthermore, there is a lucrative bonus of £147,000 up for grabs for any player who can achieve two maximum breaks across the World Championship, UK Championship, and the Masters in the same season.

As the tension mounts at The Crucible, the stakes are high for O’Sullivan and his competitors, with not only the title but also a substantial financial reward on the line. The battle for snooker supremacy is set to captivate fans until the final frame is played.
