Edinburgh Giants to Make Betfred Wheelchair Challenge Cup Debut against London Roosters

The Edinburgh Giants are gearing up for their very first Betfred Wheelchair Challenge Cup game this Saturday as they prepare to face off against the London Roosters at York Sports Centre. The Giants, formed just 12 months ago by former Leeds Rhinos and England Wheelchair Head Coach Martyn Gill, have already made a significant impact in the sport.

Martyn, who discovered Wheelchair Rugby League in 2013 and quickly fell in love with the game, has been instrumental in bringing the sport to a whole new audience in Edinburgh. The team has seen great success since its formation, with a second-place finish at the Wheelchair Challenge Trophy in April securing their spot in the prestigious competition.

Despite being a relatively new team, the Giants have already made waves in the Wheelchair Rugby League scene. They topped their Challenge Trophy group and secured a spot in the final after defeating four-time winners Gravesend Dynamite. Now, they are set to face off against the formidable London Roosters, a team known for their skill and experience in the sport.

Martyn and his team are aiming high, with aspirations of reaching the top of the competition tree. While the upcoming match against the London Roosters will undoubtedly be a tough challenge, the Giants are ready to showcase their talent and determination on the big stage.

The Betfred Wheelchair Challenge Cup quarter-finals promise to be an exciting affair, with Edinburgh Giants taking on London Roosters this Saturday and Hull FC facing off against Catalans Dragons on May 11. The semi-finals are set to take place on the weekend of May 18/19, with the Giants hoping to continue their impressive journey in the competition.
