University of Jamestown Baseball Team Secures Dramatic Wins in GPAC Tournament
The University of Jamestown baseball team had an eventful day at the GPAC Tournament on Friday, May 3, at Doane University’s Doane Ballfield Complex. In their first game of the day, the Jimmies secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Morningside University.
Jordan Singleton was the standout player for the Jimmies in the first game, driving in two runs with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and an RBI single in the third. The game remained tight as Morningside fought back to tie the game at three in the ninth inning. However, Riki Okamoto came through in the clutch, taking a pitch off the inside of his leg with the bases loaded to score Jett Nelson and secure the walk-off win for the Jimmies.
In their second game of the day, the Jimmies continued their winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Northwestern University. Jett Nelson played a key role in this game, driving in two runs with a single in the fourth inning. Luke Zimmer put in a solid performance on the mound, giving up just one unearned run over 5.2 innings.
Head coach Tom Hager praised his team’s pitching staff for their performance throughout the day, as they used eight pitchers over 18 innings and only allowed three unearned runs. The Jimmies’ bullpen came up big when it mattered most, helping the team secure two important wins.
With these victories, the Jimmies advance to face Doane University in their next game at the tournament. The team will look to carry their momentum forward and continue their winning streak as they compete for the GPAC title.
