Michael Page Discusses Concerns Over Mike Tyson Fighting Jake Paul in Upcoming Bout
Mixed martial artist Michael “Venom” Page has weighed in on the upcoming fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, and he doesn’t seem to be a fan of the idea. In an interview with Sports Seriously’s Tony Anderson, Page expressed his concerns about the modified rules and the matchup itself.
The fight, set for July 20, will feature two-minute rounds and 14-ounce gloves, which are not typical for professional boxing matches. While Paul has claimed that Tyson set these rules, Tyson’s publicist, Joann Mignano, clarified that the rules were proposed to Tyson and he agreed to them. Mignano also mentioned that Tyson was open to using even lighter gloves if necessary.
The unusual rules for the fight have raised eyebrows in the boxing community, with some questioning the intensity of the bout. Tela Mange, communications director for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, explained that a sanctioned professional fight does not necessarily mean a more intense matchup compared to an exhibition.
Despite the controversy surrounding the rules, Paul seems confident in his preparation for the fight. He has reportedly bulked up to 230 pounds, 30 pounds heavier than his usual fighting weight. Paul believes that the extra weight will benefit him in the ring, making him stronger and faster during training camp.
As the fight approaches, the debate over the rules and the matchup itself continues to divide opinions. While some see it as a unique and exciting event, others question the legitimacy of the fight. Regardless, all eyes will be on Tyson and Paul as they step into the ring this summer.
