India Secures 22 Medals, Including 7 in Finals, at Asian U-22 & Youth Boxing Championship

Indian boxers shine at the ASBC Asian U-22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan as Brijesh Tamta and Aryan, along with five other pugilists, secure spots in the finals, guaranteeing themselves a total of 22 medals in various categories.

The Indian contingent has been in top form at the prestigious tournament, with women securing 12 of the 22 assured medals. Brijesh set the tone for India’s success by defeating Mongolia’s Taalaibek Iasur in the 48kg category with a convincing 5-0 scoreline.

Rahul Kundu (75kg) and Aryan (92kg) followed suit with impressive victories over their opponents from China and Kyrgyzstan, respectively. Sagar Jakhar (60kg) forced a referee to stop the contest in the final round, securing a RSC win over his Kyrgyzstani opponent.

Other Indian boxers, including another Aryan (51kg), Yashwardhan Singh (63.5kg), and Priyanshu (71kg), continued India’s winning streak with split decision verdicts. Sumit (67kg) and Sahil (80kg) settled for bronze medals after tough losses in their respective bouts.

The tournament has seen intense competition with over 390 boxers from 24 countries, including powerhouses like China, India, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan vying for medals across 25 weight categories. The finals for the youth and U-22 categories are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

With Olympic-bound Preeti (54kg) and reigning youth world champion Vishvanath Suresh (48kg) leading the charge in the U-22 semi-finals, Indian boxing fans have much to look forward to in the upcoming matches. Muskan (75kg) and Alfiya Pathan (81kg) have also received byes in their respective semi-final bouts, adding to India’s medal hopes.

The Indian boxers have showcased their skill and determination on the international stage, and their impressive performances bode well for the future of Indian boxing.
