Stuart Bingham to Swap Snooker Balls for Pool Next Week, Eyeing Second World Snooker Championship
Stuart Bingham, the former world snooker champion, is set to make a unique transition from the green baize to the pool table next week. The 47-year-old, known as Ball Run, is gearing up to compete in the UK Open pool tournament in Telford, just days after potentially clinching another world snooker championship.
Bingham, who lifted the prestigious world snooker title in 2015, has decided to juggle both cue sports in order to maximize his earnings and playing time. This decision came about earlier in the year when he noticed a dip in his form and a decrease in his appearances at major snooker events.
The Basildon-based player expressed his love for playing year-round, stating that he will always prioritize tournaments over family holidays. With a wildcard entry into the World Nineball Tour, Bingham is eager to test his skills in the world of pool alongside snooker.
Reflecting on his passion for pool, Bingham recalled watching the Mosconi Cup in 1995 and being captivated by the skill and excitement of the game. He emphasized the importance of luck in pool, particularly with the break-off, but highlighted the skill and precision required to succeed in the sport.
While Bingham admits that snooker remains his primary focus, he is open to competing in pool events whenever his snooker schedule allows. With a busy calendar ahead, Bingham plans to alternate between the two cue sports, ensuring that he maximizes his opportunities to compete and showcase his talent on the tables.
