Central Gymnastics Teams Qualify for State Tournament in El Paso
Central Gymnastics in San Angelo, TX, is gearing up for the state tournament in El Paso this weekend, with both the girls’ and boys’ teams qualifying for the prestigious competition.
After a couple of rebuilding years, the Central Gymnastics program has once again proven its dominance in the Concho Valley, securing their spots in the state tournament following impressive victories at regionals.
Senior gymnast Logan Kypfer expressed his excitement about the team’s journey to state, stating, “We had a couple of rebuild years after our seniors left, and being able to come to state after that is pretty incredible.”
The seniors on the team are focused on perfecting their routines and correcting any minor mistakes before the big competition. Senior Freddie Von Rosenberg emphasized the importance of paying attention to the little details, such as pointing toes and flexing feet, to maximize their scores.
For senior Mariel Harzke, the state tournament holds special significance as she aims to secure her fourth consecutive state title. She reflected on the team’s past achievements, including setting a combined total score record for the state of Texas during her freshman year.
As the team wrapped up their final practice before heading to El Paso, the seniors emphasized the importance of staying calm under pressure and drawing on their experiences from district and regional meets.
With the state meet set to take place at the Bel Air Athletic Complex, the Central Gymnastics team is eager to leave a lasting impression and set a positive example for future generations of gymnasts in the program.
