Honoring the Volunteers of Nepean Sailing Club: A Celebration of Life
The Nepean Sailing Club recently faced the loss of three significant volunteer members in their community, highlighting the impact that volunteers have on amateur sports organizations. Bruce Macdonald, Gerald Gravelle, and Cathy Kayser were all dedicated members of the club who contributed their time and talents to support the sailing community.
Bruce Macdonald, a national champion in the 420 class, spent over 50 years volunteering at the Nepean Sailing Club. He was involved in various committees and was passionate about promoting safety and injury prevention while patrolling the ski hills with the Canadian Ski Patrol Gatineau Zone.
Gerald Gravelle, the club’s first commodore, played a key role in the club’s early development and growth. He oversaw the expansion of the club’s facilities and was proud of the opportunities it provided to members to learn and enjoy sailing.
Cathy Kayser, a dedicated volunteer and active member of the club, was known for her reliability and willingness to lend a hand. In addition to her involvement in sailing, she was an avid runner and participated in numerous local road races.
The passing of these three individuals is a reminder of the important role that volunteers play in amateur sports organizations. Their dedication and contributions have helped to create a vibrant and supportive community at the Nepean Sailing Club. As the club prepares to celebrate their lives, their legacy will continue to inspire others to give back and make a difference in their communities.
