Uruguayan Midfielder Martin Chaves Joins Gokulam Kerala FC for Upcoming Season

Gokulam Kerala FC has made a significant addition to their squad ahead of the upcoming I-League season by signing Uruguayan attacking midfielder Martin Chaves. The experienced player has had stints with various Indian clubs, including North East United FC, Churchill Brothers, and Rajasthan United, accumulating over 50 appearances in total.

Chaves, who also represented the Uruguay U-17 team in four matches, had an impressive season with Churchill Brothers last year, contributing with five goals and six assists. The talented midfielder expressed his excitement about joining Gokulam Kerala FC, emphasizing the club’s stature in the I-League.

“I am very happy to join a club like Gokulam Kerala FC; those of us who have already been to India know how big Gokulam is here in the I-League. Let’s hope this year we achieve the goal of winning the league and being able to be in the ISL next year,” said Chaves.

The Uruguayan player’s football journey began in his hometown of Colonia del Sacramento, where he played for local clubs Nacional de Colonia and Juventud Colonia before moving to Montevideo to join Penarol’s youth setup. Despite not breaking into Peñarol’s first team, Chaves gained valuable experience during a loan spell at Brazilian side Gremio in 2017.

After stints in Uruguay and Greece, Chaves made his way back to India in 2021, signing with Rajasthan United before eventually joining Churchill Brothers. With his wealth of experience and attacking prowess, Chaves is expected to be a key player for Gokulam Kerala FC as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
