In a thrilling Tomahawk Conference baseball doubleheader on Wednesday at Mueller Park, New Ulm Cathedral showcased their dominance by sweeping Minnesota Valley Lutheran in two closely contested games.

In the first game, the Greyhounds relied on a stellar pitching performance from right-hander Colin Anderson, who scattered five hits in a 2-0 victory. Anderson also struck out 10 batters, showcasing his dominance on the mound.

Game 2 saw Cathedral mount a late-inning rally, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth to secure a 4-3 win. Head coach Alan Woitas praised his team’s ability to come through with timely hitting, especially with two outs, which proved to be crucial in both games.

On the other side, Chargers head coach Jim Buboltz acknowledged his team’s close performance but emphasized the need for key plays and hits to turn the tide in their favor.

Despite the loss, Minnesota Valley Lutheran put up a strong fight, with Bradyn Kube delivering a solid pitching performance and contributing with two hits at the plate. However, Cathedral’s resilience and ability to capitalize on opportunities ultimately led to their victory.

In Game 2, the Chargers briefly took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth, but Cathedral responded with three runs of their own to secure the win. Caleb Forstner got the win on the mound for Cathedral, while Jake Finstad closed out the game with a save.
