Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024 Announced

The Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame (KSHOF) has announced its Class of 2024, and it includes some legendary names in the world of sports. Among the inductees are Tony Delk, a University of Kentucky basketball star, and Oscar Combs, a pioneer in sports journalism.

Delk, a native of Brownsville, Tenn., was a standout guard for the Wildcats in the mid-1990s. He led the team to the 1996 NCAA Championship and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four that year. Delk’s sharpshooting skills and leadership on the court made him one of the top scorers in UK basketball history.

Combs, hailing from Hazard, Ky., made a lasting impact on the world of sports journalism. In 1976, he founded The Cats’ Pause, the first independent publication dedicated to covering a major college athletics program. Combs’ work helped to revolutionize sports coverage and build a strong fan base for the Wildcats.

Joining Delk and Combs in the Class of 2024 are quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, a former University of Louisville star who went on to have a successful NFL career, and Roy Pickerill, a longtime sports information director at Kentucky Wesleyan College.

The selection committee, made up of sports media professionals from across Kentucky, carefully chose this year’s inductees. The Class of 2024 will be honored in a special ceremony at Freedom Hall in Louisville in September 2024.

Louisville Sports Commission President and CEO Greg Fante expressed excitement about this year’s class, noting that each inductee has made a significant impact on sports in Kentucky and beyond. The KSHOF, founded in 1963, aims to recognize athletes and sports figures who have left a lasting legacy in the Commonwealth.

The Class of 2024 truly represents the best of Kentucky sports, and their induction into the Hall of Fame is a well-deserved honor. Fans can look forward to celebrating these legends and their accomplishments at the upcoming ceremony.
