Saracens’ Billy Vunipola Escapes Disciplinary Action After Majorca Arrest
Billy Vunipola, the England number eight, has managed to avoid disciplinary action from his club Saracens following an incident in Majorca. Vunipola was arrested in Palma after refusing to leave a bar and was tasered twice by Spanish police before being taken away. Despite the dramatic turn of events, Saracens have completed their internal investigation and have decided not to take any further action against the 31-year-old.
In a statement, Saracens condemned Vunipola’s behavior and warned him about his future conduct. The club has now closed the matter and is looking forward to focusing on the remainder of the Premiership season. However, Vunipola may still face a misconduct charge from the Rugby Football Union, as they are waiting for details of Saracens’ probe before deciding whether to launch disciplinary proceedings.
The RFU has the authority to discipline any conduct that is deemed prejudicial to the interests of the union or the game. With Saracens’ next fixture scheduled against Bristol on May 11, any potential RFU investigation could extend into the middle of the following week. Vunipola, who has won 75 caps for England, is also expected to join French club Montpellier at the end of the season.
The incident in Majorca has certainly raised eyebrows, but for now, Vunipola can breathe a sigh of relief as he continues to focus on his rugby career. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story by signing up for our free sport newsletter.
