Introducing the Girls’ Football Scholarship with The New Saints FC Foundation
The Girls’ Football Scholarship, set to kick off in September, is making waves with its unique partnership with The New Saints FC Foundation. This exciting opportunity offers a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport for 16 to 19-year-olds who are passionate about pursuing a career in football as a professional player, coach, referee, or physiotherapist.
The program, in collaboration with The New Saints FC through their charity, TNS FC Foundation, will provide students with two to three training sessions per week, a UEFA qualified coach, and the chance to work and play alongside the TNS FC teams. This partnership aims to give aspiring female footballers a platform to hone their skills and gain valuable experience in the football industry.
Head of women and girls’ football at The New Saints FC, Shauna Duffy, highlighted the focus of the course on football and the various career paths available in the sport. Unlike the boys’ program, which primarily focuses on producing professional players, the girls’ scholarship program will offer a broader emphasis on careers in football such as coaching, refereeing, and physiotherapy.
With the women’s game still progressing, the scholarship provides a valuable opportunity for young girls to explore different avenues within the football industry. The chance to work alongside football professionals and gain practical experience will undoubtedly set the participants on the path to success.
The program will be based at North Shropshire College’s Oswestry campus under the leadership of Marie Davis. Excitement is building as the scholarship aims to nurture and develop the talents of young female footballers with the support and enthusiasm of Shauna Duffy.
