Exciting Upgrades Complete at Piggabeen Sports Complex for Tweed Heads West Locals and Rugby League Community

The Tweed Heads West community is buzzing with excitement as the first stage of upgrades at the Piggabeen Sports Complex has been completed, providing a state-of-the-art sporting facility for locals and rugby league enthusiasts.

The partnership project between Tweed Shire Council and Tweed Seagulls Rugby League Football Club has seen significant improvements to field surfaces, lighting, stormwater management, and the addition of a new children’s playground. The newly upgraded fields now offer a smoother and more professional surface for players, enhancing their performance on the field.

Tweed Seagulls RLFC Chief Executive Officer Brendon Lindsay expressed his gratitude for the support received in delivering this upgrade, which has already been put to the test during the club’s recent games against the Burleigh Bears. The fields held up well, showcasing the quality of the renovations.

The NSW Government’s investment in the project through the Regional Housing Fund and the Office of Sport Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund highlights their commitment to providing high-quality recreational spaces for the growing community of Tweed Heads. Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully and Minister for Sport Steve Kamper both emphasized the importance of such projects in promoting community health, activity, and connection.

Environmental considerations were also a priority in the construction process, with the incorporation of sustainable features such as energy-efficient LED lighting and drought-tolerant turf. These initiatives reflect Council’s dedication to a greener future for the region.

As work on Stage 2 of the Piggabeen Sports Complex Masterplan is prioritized for future planning, the community is encouraged to provide feedback on the Draft Masterplan to ensure the facility continues to meet the needs of residents and sports enthusiasts alike. This project is just one example of Council’s commitment to supporting an active and healthy community in the Tweed area.
