Brighton announce record profit of £122.8m in historic season
Brighton have announced a record profit of £122.8m in the 2022-23 financial year, marking the most successful season in the Premier League club’s history. The profit after tax saw a significant increase annually, rising by almost £100m from £24.1m, with turnover also reaching a record high of £204.5m, up by 17.2%.
The club’s success on the pitch played a crucial role in their financial success, with Brighton finishing sixth in the Premier League in 2022-23 and reaching the FA Cup semi-finals. Additionally, the club made substantial profits from the sale of key players, including Mali midfielder Yves Bissouma, Spain left-back Marc Cucurella, Belgium forward Leandro Trossard, and Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
Brighton’s manager, Roberto de Zerbi, guided the club to their highest league finish in their 122-year history, as well as the FA Cup semi-finals for only the third time. The club’s income from prize money and broadcasting revenue increased significantly, contributing to their record-breaking financial figures.
The club’s chairman, Tony Bloom, has been instrumental in Brighton’s rise, providing significant financial support and investment since taking over in 2009. Bloom’s vision and commitment to the club have been praised by Brighton’s chief executive, Paul Barber, who highlighted the club’s progress towards becoming more sustainable and less reliant on external investment.
Looking ahead, Brighton faces uncertainty regarding their manager’s future, as Roberto de Zerbi has been linked to other top clubs and has reportedly questioned Bloom’s ambition. Despite this, Brighton fans remain grateful for Bloom’s contributions to the club’s success and stability, as they look towards a bright future in European football.
