Mayank Yadav’s IPL Participation in Doubt, Set to Receive BCCI Pace Bowling Contract

New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants’ pace sensation Mayank Yadav’s participation in the remainder of the IPL round-robin stage hangs in the balance after he suffered a suspected abdominal muscle tear during the game against Mumbai Indians, marking his second injury setback in the past four weeks.

The 21-year-old Delhi cricketer, who made a blazing start to the IPL with impressive performances, including two ‘Player of the Match’ awards, was forced to sit out for four weeks due to an injury in the third match. Despite passing fitness tests and making a comeback against Mumbai Indians, Mayank could only bowl 3.1 overs before being sidelined again.

In a positive development for Mayank, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to offer him a pace bowling contract along with five other promising young bowlers. This contract will see Mayank being placed under the supervision of the National Cricket Academy’s Sports Science and Medical team for injury management and fitness training.

While there is a slim chance of Mayank featuring in the IPL playoffs if Lucknow Super Giants qualify, sources close to the BCCI have indicated that his participation remains doubtful for the remaining league games.

With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, the Indian cricket establishment is keen on handling Mayank with care to ensure his long-term fitness and development. The BCCI source highlighted the importance of monitoring Mayank’s growth systematically within the BCCI Pathways structure to prepare him for future international opportunities.

As Mayank navigates through this injury setback, all eyes will be on his road to recovery and potential return to competitive cricket in the near future.
