Investment in Athletics Tracks Revitalization and Construction Underway by Abinader Administration
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation in the Dominican Republic is making significant strides in the revitalization of athletics tracks across the country, with a whopping investment of 142.74 million pesos. This move underscores the government’s unwavering support for the youth involved in various athletic disciplines.
Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho, recently announced the ongoing efforts to reconstruct athletics tracks at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium and the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in the National District. Additionally, the Moca sports complex in the province of Espaillat is also undergoing reconstruction. Furthermore, a brand-new sports complex in San José de Ocoa, complete with an athletics track and a softball stadium, is in the works.
The financial breakdown of the investment reveals that refurbishing the Félix Sánchez Olympic track alone will cost 65,715,430.75 pesos, with an additional budget for heating costs. The reconstruction of the Moca athletics track and the construction of the Ocoa facility also require significant investments.
Minister Camacho emphasized that the completion of the Moca and San José de Ocoa projects is expected by the end of the year, with potential delays due to unforeseen circumstances like inclement weather. These efforts are part of the comprehensive restoration process for all structures within the complexes, in preparation for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Sports Games in 2026.
President Abinader’s directive in March to commence repair and enhancement works across all facilities earmarked for the XXV Games highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring these venues are ready for the grand sporting event in 2026. The investment in athletics tracks is a testament to the government’s dedication to promoting sports and providing top-notch facilities for athletes in the Dominican Republic.
