Frankenmuth’s Sommerfield and Kroeger Lead Eagles to Back-to-Back Shutouts
Frankenmuth’s Caden Sommerfield and Tanner Kroeger showcased their pitching prowess in back-to-back shutouts, solidifying the Eagles’ position at the top of the Tri-Valley Conference baseball standings. The dynamic duo led Frankenmuth to a sweep against Essexville Garber with scores of 4-0 and 6-0, maintaining the Eagles’ flawless 7-0 record in the TVC and an impressive 13-3 overall record.
Sommerfield dominated in the first game, throwing a one-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts to secure the win. Jae Shobrook fueled the offense with a double, run, RBI, and walk. In the second game, Kroeger took the mound and delivered a two-hit shutout, walking three and striking out eight. Shobrook and Hunter Bernthal led the offensive charge with two hits each.
In other baseball action, Swan Valley triumphed over Birch Run with scores of 16-6 and 11-1. John Meyette shined in the first game with three hits, four RBIs, and a stellar pitching performance. Colton Klein and Jaxon Hartley combined for a no-hitter in the second game, with Klein recording 12 strikeouts.
Freeland also secured victories against Bay City John Glenn, while Midland High split their doubleheader against Midland Dow. Bullock Creek, Clare, and Millington also emerged victorious in their respective matchups.
