Rishabh Pant named in India’s T20 World Cup squad after near-fatal car crash; KL Rahul left out
Rishabh Pant has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, marking a remarkable comeback just 16 months after being involved in a near-fatal car crash. The talented wicketkeeper-batsman underwent plastic surgery to repair facial injuries sustained in the collision that occurred in December 2022.
Since returning to competitive cricket last month, Pant has been in scintillating form, leading Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League and scoring 398 runs in 11 innings at an impressive strike rate of 158.56. His inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad comes as a testament to his resilience and determination to excel on the field.
Pant will be joined by Sanju Samson as the other wicketkeeper in the squad, with the 29-year-old earning his first World Cup call-up. However, there was disappointment for KL Rahul, who was left out despite being India’s wicketkeeper at the last 50-over World Cup.
The squad also features the return of all-rounder Shivam Dube and the surprise inclusion of wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been in fine form in the IPL. Star batters Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma are also part of the squad, with both players in excellent form in the ongoing IPL season.
India will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland, followed by matches against Pakistan, hosts the USA, and Canada. With a strong squad at their disposal, India will be aiming to go one step further than their semi-final finish in the last edition of the tournament.
Fans can catch all the action from the T20 World Cup live on Sky Sports Cricket from June 1-29, or stream the matches with NOW for an immersive viewing experience.
