OHSAA Announces Preliminary Divisional Assignments for Fall Sports, Including Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, Golf, and Tennis

The high school sports landscape in Ohio is set to undergo a major transformation with the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s (OHSAA) announcement of preliminary divisional assignments for fall sports. One of the most notable changes is in volleyball, where the Lake Catholic volleyball team, two-time defending Division III state champions, will be moving to Division V next year.

The OHSAA’s decision to increase the number of divisions for sports starting with the 2024-25 school year has led to significant shifts in the competitive landscape for high school sports in Ohio. The preliminary divisional alignments for girls soccer, boys soccer, volleyball, boys cross country, girls cross country, boys golf, girls golf, and girls tennis were announced on April 30, revealing the new divisional placements for schools across the state.

In volleyball, Lake Catholic and Gilmour, perennial powerhouses in the sport, will be competing in new divisions next year. Lake Catholic, currently in Division III, will be moving down to Division V, while Gilmour will be competing in Division III. This realignment sets the stage for exciting matchups and new rivalries as schools adjust to their new divisional placements.

The changes in divisional alignments will also impact other fall sports such as soccer, cross country, golf, and tennis. Schools will be competing in divisions based on adjusted enrollment figures, with some schools moving up to higher divisions based on competitive balance numbers for student-athletes from outside the school district.

As schools prepare for the upcoming fall sports season, the new divisional alignments promise to bring a fresh level of competition and excitement to high school sports in Ohio. Fans can look forward to seeing how schools adapt to their new divisional placements and the thrilling matchups that will unfold as a result of these changes.
