Indian Boxers Vishvanath Suresh, Akash Gorkha, and Preet Malik Advance to Semi-Finals at ASBC Asian U-22 and Youth Boxing Championships
Indian boxers Vishvanath Suresh, Akash Gorkha, and Preet Malik showcased their skills and determination as they secured convincing victories to progress into the men’s U-22 semi-finals at the ASBC Asian U-22 and Youth Boxing Championships 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Vishvanath Suresh, the reigning youth world champion in the 48kg category, displayed his dominance in the ring as he defeated Iran’s Hassani Seyedarsham with a comfortable 5-0 win. Following his lead, senior national champion Akash Gorkha also delivered a stellar performance, outclassing Ebadi Arman of Iran with a similar 5-0 scoreline. Preet Malik didn’t disappoint either, finishing his bout against Vietnam’s Nguyen Duc Ngoc with a Referee Stopping the Contest decision in the first round.
Unfortunately, Kunal couldn’t secure a win in the quarter-finals, losing to Iran’s Mahshari Mohammad with a score of 0-5. However, the Indian boxing contingent still has a strong presence in the tournament, with several boxers set to compete in the upcoming matches.
The U-22 semi-finals are scheduled to take place on Saturday, with Jugnoo, Rhythm, Tammana, Preeti, and Priyanka gearing up for their quarter-final bouts. In the youth category, Rahul Kundu, Lakshay Rathi, Laxmi, Tamanna, Yatri Patel, and Shrusthi Sathe have already advanced to the semi-finals.
The tournament has been a thrilling display of talent and determination, with over 390 boxers from 24 countries competing across 25 weight categories. The finals for the youth and U-22 categories are set to take place on May 6 and May 7, respectively.
