Miami Grand Prix Organizers Take Action to Prevent Fundraiser for Former President Donald Trump at Sunday’s Race

The Miami Grand Prix is making headlines off the track as organizers take a stand against a potential fundraiser for former President Donald Trump during Sunday’s race.

According to reports, race organizers have sent a cease and desist letter to Steven Witkoff, a prominent fundraiser for the GOP nominee, who had planned to host an event for Trump at the race. The letter stated that using the Paddock Club Rooftop Suite for a political fundraiser violates the suite license agreement and could result in the revocation of Witkoff’s suite license.

Trump, who has been residing in South Florida since leaving the White House in 2021, is reportedly planning to attend the race. Witkoff, a real estate developer and longtime supporter of the former president, had advertised a trip to the race in a suite that would have been used for the fundraiser.

This move by the Miami Grand Prix comes as Trump’s last major auto racing event appearance was in 2020 when he gave the command ahead of the Daytona 500. The race around the parking lot of the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens has been a popular event since its inception in 2022, with Max Verstappen winning the first two races.

Verstappen, who has dominated this season with four wins in five races, is the favorite heading into Sunday’s race. The event will also feature a sprint race on Saturday, a new addition to the F1 schedule for the Miami Grand Prix. Unlike in previous years, Saturday’s sprint race will award points, with qualifying to follow to set the grid for Sunday’s main event.

As the Miami Grand Prix continues to grow in popularity, the controversy surrounding the potential fundraiser for Trump adds an extra layer of intrigue to this weekend’s race.
