Jonny Bairstow’s sensational unbeaten century in just 45 balls led Punjab Kings to a historic victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. Bairstow’s blistering knock of 108* from 48 balls helped Punjab Kings chase down a mammoth target of 262 with ease, securing an eight-wicket win.
The match, played in Kolkata, saw Kolkata Knight Riders post a formidable total of 261-6 in their 20 overs, with Phil Salt and Sunil Narine leading the charge with quickfire innings of 75 (37) and 71 (32) respectively. However, Punjab Kings’ batting lineup rose to the occasion, with Bairstow’s heroics stealing the show.
Bairstow, who was dropped for Punjab’s previous two games, made a strong statement with his aggressive batting display, smashing eight fours and nine sixes in his innings. His century was the quickest by an Englishman in the IPL, surpassing his own record set in 2019.
