Mission LA 2028: India’s cycling hopes to ride on French coach Sireau and talented youngsters

In a groundbreaking move for Indian sports, the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) is gearing up for the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028 with the help of a foreign coach and a group of promising young cyclists. The team’s first major challenge will be the World Championship later this year.

Frenchman Kevin Sireau, a two-time Olympic Games medallist, has been brought on board to lead the charge for India’s cycling hopes at the upcoming Olympics. With the support of the Union Sports Ministry, overseas coaches have played a crucial role in India’s success in various Olympic sports. This time, the focus is on maximizing the potential of Indian cycling under the guidance of Sireau.

Since joining CFI in January, Sireau has already seen the determination and talent of India’s top cyclists. The country has a strong track record in cycling, with victories at the Asian and world junior levels. The quartet of Esow Alben, L. Ronaldo Singh, Y. Rojit Singh, and Jemsh Singh made history by winning a men’s team sprint gold at the 2019 World Junior Track Cycling Championship.

At the recent Asian Track Cycling Championship in Delhi, India continued to impress with nine gold, six silver, and three bronze medals, setting new national records along the way. While no Indian cyclists qualified for the Paris Olympics, the focus remains on the long-term goal of success at the LA 2028 Games.

Sireau, who has tasted Olympic success himself, is confident in the potential of Indian cyclists like Ronaldo, Rojit, and David. With a strong work ethic and dedication, he believes they can reach the podium at the Olympics. The team’s recent personal best at the Asian Track Cycling Championship is a testament to their progress and determination.

As the Indian team sets its sights on the World Championships in October, the journey towards LA 2028 has officially begun. With the guidance of coach Sireau and the talent of young cyclists, India’s cycling hopes are riding high for the upcoming Olympic Games.
