Janadhipathi Balika Hockey Wing emerges as runner up in Double Blue Hockey 7s tournament

In a thrilling final match at the Wesley College ground in Colombo, the Janadhipathi Balika Hockey Wing put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell short to the Old Musaeites Hockey Club by a solitary goal to nil in the women’s final of the 2nd annual Double Blue Hockey 7s tournament.

The Janadhipathi Balika Hockey Wing, along with three other teams – Visakhians Hockey, Old Musaeites Hockey Club, and Bishopian Hockey – were invited by the Old Wesleyites Sports Club to participate in this year’s tournament. Despite facing tough competition, the Janadhipathi Balika Hockey Wing showed their resilience and determination throughout the tournament.

In the league matches, the Janadhipathi Balika Hockey Wing displayed their skills by beating Visakhians Hockey, Old Musaeites Hockey Club, and Bishopian Hockey in thrilling encounters that ended in draws and penalty shootouts. Their impressive performance earned them a spot in the semi-finals, where they defeated Visakhians Hockey once again in a nail-biting match that went down to penalty strokes.

Although they fought hard in the final, the Janadhipathi Balika Hockey Wing could not overcome the Old Musaeites Hockey Club, who emerged victorious with a single goal. Despite the loss, Subodha Lakshika of the Janadhipathi Balika Hockey Wing was recognized for her outstanding performance and was awarded the title of Best Goalkeeper at the tournament.

The Janadhipathi Balika Hockey Wing team, consisting of talented players such as G.M.D. Sanduni, Buddhika Chalani, and Chamudi Perera, showcased their skills and teamwork throughout the tournament. With their impressive display of hockey prowess, the Janadhipathi Balika Hockey Wing has proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in women’s hockey.
