Expansion of Ferry Services at Rosslare Europort Boosts Connectivity Ahead of Rail-Ferry Service Arrival in 2025
Brittany Ferries Expands Services at Rosslare Europort
In a strategic move to boost connectivity ahead of the arrival of its rail-ferry service in 2025, Brittany Ferries has announced the addition of a third weekly rotation linking Rosslare Europort with Cherbourg. This new service will provide an even greater opportunity for freight operators to bypass the UK, cutting down on bureaucracy and delays at the UK border.
Glenn Carr, Director Commercial Business Units at Iarnród Éireann/Irish Rail & Port Authority Rosslare Europort, expressed delight at the increased services, stating that it strengthens the links and connectivity between Ireland and France. CEO of Brittany Ferries, Christophe Mathieu, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the benefits for hauliers and logistics companies.
Since Brexit came into effect, Rosslare Europort has experienced significant growth, now operating over 34 services between various destinations in Europe. The port has become a hub of activity, with its largest ever infrastructure investment underway to upgrade passenger, freight, security, border control, storage, and future Offshore Renewable Energy facilities.
Brittany Ferries has played a key role in growing the direct Ireland-France market, with freight volumes on France to Ireland routes increasing by 96% in just two years. Passenger traffic has also seen a fourfold increase, demonstrating the company’s commitment to both freight and passenger services.
The new service will operate with the chartered Condor ferry, the Commodore Clipper, offering additional sailings to and from Portsmouth. In addition to the three weekly rotations to Cherbourg, Brittany Ferries also operates services to Cork-Roscoff and Rosslare-Bilbao.
Overall, the expansion of services at Rosslare Europort marks a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity and facilitating smoother transportation between Ireland and France. With continued investments and partnerships, the port is set to further solidify its position as a key transportation hub in Europe.
