Excitement Builds for Bermuda SailGP with Adopt a Club Programme

The excitement is building in Bermuda as the countdown is on to the highly anticipated Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix this weekend. The ten SailGP teams set to compete in the event have partnered with local clubs and community groups as part of the global league’s Adopt a Club programme, adding an extra level of excitement and engagement for both the teams and the local community.

The teams will have the opportunity to visit local clubs and interact with their members, as well as showcase their high-performance F50 catamarans, capable of reaching speeds of close to 100km per hour. The partnerships have been carefully curated, with each team being paired with a specific local club. For example, the German SailGP team has partnered with the East End Mini Yacht-Club, while the Spanish Point Boat Club will be hosting the Australian team.

Local excitement is palpable as the world’s best sailors prepare to descend on the island, with club commodores expressing their enthusiasm for the partnerships. Hal Kempe, Rear commodore of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, is thrilled to welcome back the Danish Team for the third year, highlighting the legacy opportunities that such partnerships create for the next generation of Bermudian sailors.

The event organizer, Schereene Outerbridge, Head of Event for Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix, is looking forward to showcasing Bermudian hospitality to the international teams. The Adopt-a-Club programme, now in its third year, provides a unique opportunity for local sailors and sailing enthusiasts to get an insight into the world of high-performance racing, while also allowing the international teams to connect with the local community.

With the event set to take place this weekend, excitement is at an all-time high, with tickets available for purchase online. The festivities will include a live concert by soca sensation, Kes the Band, following the opening day of racing, promising an action-packed weekend for all involved.
