NCAA Division-I Men’s Golf Postseason Preview: Regional Round and Selection Show Details
The NCAA Division-I men’s golf postseason is quickly approaching, with the regional round set to take place from May 13-15 at six different sites. A total of 81 teams will be vying for a spot in the NCAA Championship at La Costa, with 30 automatic qualifiers and 51 at-large bids up for grabs.
The selection show is scheduled for May 1 at 2 p.m. ET on Golf Channel, where teams will eagerly await their fate. This year, the selection process could see some changes due to the absence of Golfstat’s ranking. The NCAA committee will heavily rely on Mark Broadie’s national collegiate golf ranking, along with other established ranking systems, to determine at-large bids and regional seeding. Teams have even been asked to submit brag sheets to further assist the committee in their decision-making process.
Currently, the magic number for at-large bids sits at No. 68, with Michigan State holding onto that spot. However, several teams below .500, including Pepperdine and Oregon State, are still in contention. Florida Gulf Coast is projected to be the first team out, hoping to secure a spot after being left out in 2021.
As the postseason draws near, here is a projection of how the six regionals could shape up:
– Baton Rouge Regional
– West Lafayette Regional
– Rancho Santa Fe Regional
– Chapel Hill Regional
– Austin Regional
– Stanford Regional
With powerhouse teams like Auburn, Vanderbilt, and Arizona State leading the way, the competition is sure to be fierce as teams battle it out for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championship. Stay tuned for the selection show on May 1 to see which teams will make the cut and continue their quest for a national title.
