Saracens to Deal with Billy Vunipola Incident Internally: Player Fined 240 Euros
Saracens rugby player Billy Vunipola has found himself in hot water after an incident in Mallorca, where he was reportedly tasered and arrested. The 31-year-old has since been fined 240 euros (£205) and is returning to the UK following the incident.
Reports surfaced on Monday morning detailing Vunipola’s encounter with police after arriving at a bar in Palma in the early hours of Sunday morning. Images obtained by Sky Sports News show Vunipola involved in the incident on Sunday night, sparking concern and speculation.
In a statement released by Saracens, Vunipola clarified the situation, stating that it was an “unfortunate misunderstanding” that got out of hand. He denied any violence or threats, claiming he was charged with resisting the law and has paid the fine. The Spanish police investigation has been closed, and Vunipola is cooperating with Saracens’ internal process.
Saracens have confirmed they are aware of the incident and will be handling it internally. Vunipola, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, has had a successful career with 75 England caps to his name. However, he is not currently part of the England squad.
The incident comes at a crucial time for Saracens as they are vying for their sixth league title in the last 10 seasons. With just two rounds of regular season games left before the play-offs, the club will need to focus on their upcoming matches without the distraction of off-field issues.
