India Secures Medals in ASBC Asian U-22 and Youth Boxing Championships 2024: Brijesh, Sagar, Sumit Clinch Podium Finishes

Indian boxers Brijesh Tamta, Sagar Jakhar, and Sumit shine at the ASBC Asian U22 and Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. The trio secured victories in their respective bouts to advance to the semi-finals and guarantee themselves medals in the youth category.

Brijesh Tamta (48kg) displayed a gritty performance against Uzbekistan’s Sabirov Sayfiddin, winning the crucial third round 4-3 after a closely contested match. Sagar Jakhar (60kg) and Sumit (67kg) also delivered impressive performances, securing dominant 5-0 victories over their opponents from Thailand and Korea, respectively.

With these victories, India has now secured a total of eight medals in the youth category, with five women boxers set to begin their campaigns in the semi-finals. The Indian contingent, led by a 50-member squad, has been putting up a strong showing at the prestigious tournament, which features over 390 boxers from 24 countries competing across 25 weight categories.

The action-packed event will see the finals for the youth and U-22 categories taking place on May 6 and 7, respectively. The Boxing Federation of India has high hopes for its talented boxers, with the likes of Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti and promising youngsters like Tammana and Priyanka set to make their mark in the upcoming bouts.
