Indian Boxers Brijesh Tamta, Sagar Jakhar, and Sumit Secure Medals in Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships

Indian boxers Brijesh Tamta, Sagar Jakhar, and Sumit have made the country proud by securing victories in the youth category of the Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. With these wins, they have secured a spot in the semi-finals and guaranteed themselves medals.

Brijesh Tamta, competing in the 48kg category, faced a tough challenge against Uzbekistan’s Sabirov Sayfiddin. After a closely contested bout, Brijesh emerged victorious in the third round, winning 4-3 after a review of the match. Sagar Jakhar (60kg) and Sumit (67kg) also put up impressive performances, clinching 5-0 victories against their opponents from Thailand and Korea, respectively.

With these three medals, India has now secured a total of eight medals in the youth category. The women boxers Annu, Parthavi Grewal, Nikita Chand, Khushi Pooniya, and Nirjhara Bana are set to begin their campaigns in the semi-finals, adding to India’s medal tally.

In the upcoming matches, Rahul Kundu, Hemant Sangwan, Lakshay Rathi, Laxmi, Tamanna, Yatri Patel, and Shrusthi Sathe will be aiming to secure victories in their youth quarter-finals.

The Boxing Federation of India has fielded a strong 50-member squad for the tournament, which has seen intense competition with over 390 boxers from 24 countries participating in 25 weight categories. The finals for the youth and U-22 categories are scheduled for May 6 and 7, respectively.
