UNC Basketball Faces Tough Competition for Transfer Target Adou Thiero
The UNC basketball team has the opportunity to hand out up to three more scholarships for next season, but their chances of landing transfer target Adou Thiero may have taken a hit with the recent addition of Belmont sophomore Cade Tyson to the roster.
Thiero, a Kentucky transfer and Quaker Valley High School alum, is currently ranked No. 23 overall on the 247Sports transfer rankings. The 6-foot-8 forward put up solid numbers for the Wildcats last season, averaging 7.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game.
After visiting Pitt over the weekend, Thiero’s social media activity has raised eyebrows among college basketball fans. He recently congratulated a football transfer to Pitt on Instagram, using a “welcome” caption that some interpreted as a sign that he may be leaning towards joining the Panthers.
In addition, Thiero has started following Pitt’s head coach Jeff Capel and some of the basketball players on Instagram, further fueling speculation that he may be close to making a decision.
While the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Thiero currently remains empty, it’s clear that Pitt has emerged as a serious contender for his services. UNC head coach Hubert Davis and his staff recently met with Thiero in person, but it appears that Capel and his team are in “commitment watch” mode.
As the recruitment of Adou Thiero unfolds, fans will be eagerly awaiting his decision. Stay tuned to All Tar Heels on SI for the latest UNC basketball news and updates.
