The Navy women’s rowing team showcased their speed and determination at the 2024 Lake Wheeler Invitational, finishing their last regular season competition with a series of impressive races on Saturday morning. The Mids entered three varsity eight crews and a pair of fours, and they did not disappoint, passing at least one power-five conference boat in every race.

Head coach Joe Schlosberg praised his team’s performance, stating, “We made progress and it was fantastic to be able to finish our weekend with incredibly tight racing in the final round. To be able to get multiple boats across going stroke-for-stroke is simply invaluable.”

In the first varsity four race, Navy’s crew secured a runner-up result, narrowly edging out Kansas by 0.048 seconds to claim second place. The Mids’ second varsity four crew also put on a strong showing, finishing just 0.28 seconds behind Tulsa in a close battle for second place.

The second and third varsity eight crews finished fourth in their respective events, with the 2V8 crew challenging the 7:00-minute plateau and crossing the line in fourth place. The Mids’ first varsity eight crew continued the trend of improving times from Friday, clocking a speedy 6:52.817 to finish fifth in a highly competitive field.

Looking ahead, Navy will now focus on the Patriot League Championship, set for Friday, May 17 in Cherry Hill, N.J. The Mids are the defending champions of the year-end league regatta and will be aiming to secure another title and earn an automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA Championship Regatta.

With their strong showing at the Lake Wheeler Invitational, the Navy women’s rowing team has set the stage for an exciting and competitive postseason as they look to defend their Patriot League title and make a splash at the NCAA Championship.
