Gary Kirsten outlines his vision for Pakistan men’s team under his coaching reign

Gary Kirsten, the newly-appointed white-ball coach for the Pakistan men’s team, has shared his thoughts on the upcoming challenges and his goals for the team. The former South African batter, who famously led India to victory in the 2011 Men’s ODI World Cup, is set to coach Pakistan for a period of two years.

Kirsten’s first assignment with the team will be a four-match T20I tour of England, followed by the Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. Speaking about the importance of both 50-over and T20 cricket, Kirsten emphasized the need for the team to operate at its best in order to have a chance at winning ICC events.

The 2011 World Cup-winning coach acknowledged that winning a World Cup is no easy feat, but he believes that if the team can perform at its peak, they will always have a good chance of lifting a trophy. Pakistan’s last ICC silverware came in the form of the 2017 Champions Trophy triumph in England.

Kirsten, who is currently serving as the batting coach-cum-mentor for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, highlighted the importance of establishing a strong team environment, consistency, and continuity as his initial targets with the Pakistan team. He stressed the need for players to play at the absolute maximum of their talents.

In conclusion, Kirsten urged fans to remain patient and supportive of the team’s performances, emphasizing that the players should see the massive support base as a journey they walk hand-in-hand with the Pakistani people. With Kirsten at the helm, Pakistan will be looking to make a mark in upcoming white-ball events and strive for success on the international stage.
