England rugby star Billy Vunipola arrested in Mallorca after late-night incident at bar

England rugby star Billy Vunipola found himself in hot water after a late-night incident at a bar in Mallorca resulted in his arrest by police. The 31-year-old Saracens forward was reportedly tasered twice by officers after allegedly threatening staff and customers with bottles and chairs at the Epic bar in Palma.

Local reports described the dramatic scene as it took eight officers to subdue the 6ft 2in, 19st Vunipola, who defiantly took his shirt off and flexed his muscles when confronted by police at 4.30am on Sunday morning. Despite the first taser shot failing to bring him down, a second volley finally led to his apprehension and transfer to a police van.

Vunipola was then taken to Son Espases Hospital, where he was reportedly strapped down and sedated. A video circulating in Mallorcan media showed the rugby star being escorted into court while handcuffed to a police officer before being released on bail.

Saracens, the reigning champions, have placed Vunipola on the bench for their last two league games, opting to start 25-year-old Tom Willis instead. The club issued a statement acknowledging the incident and stating that they will handle the matter internally.

Vunipola, who was born in Australia to Tongan parents but grew up in the UK, has had a successful career playing for both Saracens and the England national team. However, recent struggles with injury and form have led to his exclusion from the England squad, sparking speculation that he may be considering a move to France next season.

The incident in Mallorca is not the first time Vunipola has faced issues related to alcohol, as he has previously spoken about the negative impact drinking has had on his life and career. Despite his past struggles, Vunipola remains a talented athlete with the potential for a successful future if he can overcome his personal challenges.
